Sorority Hazing Leads to Wrongful Death Claim

In an article by Anne Blythe from Newsobserver.com it was reported that the mother of an East Carolina University student had filed a lawsuit against Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for the wrongful death of her daughter. Victoria T’nya-Ann Carter, daughter of Bernadette Carter, was killed in a one car accident in 2010 at the conclusion of “Hell Week”, the period of time the sorority initiates its new members. Ms. Carter believes the activities of the sorority led to and caused the accident that killed her daughter.

Fall from Party Bus Claims Life of 11 Year Old Girl

Victoria Edwards of The Oregonian reported on the death of an 11 year old girl, Angie Hernandez, who fell from a bus safety window while she was celebrating her cousin’s 15th birthday. The accident occurred on Saturday, September 29, around 6:30 p.m. in downtown Portland when the bus made a right turn at the intersection of Southwest First Avenue onto Southwest Harrison Street. As the bus was turning, the force of the girl’s body caused the window to open and she fell out of the bus. The bus is owned by Five Star Limousine in Portland.

Roundabout Opens at Intersection of Eagle and Amity

Theresa Palmgren of KTVB posted a story about the new Roundabout at Eagle and Amity that was officially dedicated on Friday, September 21, 2012, by the Ada County Highway District. It is a new, quicker, and, hopefully, safer way to get through the intersection.

Foul Ball Injury Leads to Lawsuit Against Braves

Bill Rankin, a writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reported Wednesday, July 18, 2012, about a lawsuit filed against the Atlanta Braves, its owner, Liberty Media Corp. and Major League Baseball Enterprises. The lawsuit was filed by the father of a 6-year-old girl who was injured at a Braves game on August 30, 2010, when she was hit in the head by a foul ball.

Eagle Road Construction Creates Safety and Economic Hazards

KTVB reporter Andrea Lutz reports on the impact the ongoing Eagle Road construction is having on safety and businesses.  The Idaho Transportation Department’s plan for improved traffic flow and safety calls for raised medians and the elimination of left hand turns at numerous locations.  Eagle Road is the busiest road in the state of Idaho.  280 accidents occurred on Eagle Road in 2010.  Read the entire report here:

Mother of Motorcyclist Killed in Crash Sues City

Naomi Nix, a reporter for the Chicago Tribune, gave a brief report of a lawsuit filed against Chicago as a result of the death of a motorcycle rider, Ronald Bizeau, Jr., who was killed while riding his motorcycle on June 29, 2011. According to the lawsuit filed by his mother, the city failed to give adequate warning of a lane closure due to construction on the southbound lane of Harlem Avenue near the intersection of Myrtle Avenue. Bizeau was fatally injured as a result of striking the warning sign. The lawsuit alleges that the sign was negligently placed.

Idaho’s New Texting While Driving Law Takes Effect on July 1, 2012

Idaho's new texting while driving law was passed back in April 2012 and will go into effect on Sunday, July 1, 2012. Link below to see KTVB's news report on what law enforcement officers will be looking for beginning in July.

Text Message Sender May Share Blame for Accident

Peggy Wright of the Daily Record in Morristown, New Jersey recently reported on a story involving an auto accident in which texting played a significant part in the accident. Kyle Best was driving from work when his vehicle crossed into an opposing lane of traffic, causing him to strike a couple riding on a motorcycle. Best was not texting on his cell phone at the time, but he did glance down right before the accident to see who had sent him a text message.
